Introduction
10 minutes |
- As a class hold a quick discussion about healthy and unhealthy foods and meals.
- Discuss why a cricketer needs to keep to a healthy diet and what this might include.
- Discuss all of the types of foods we need to create a balanced diet (Vitamins, Fibre, Carbohydrates, Proteins, Minerals & Fats) and why we need a balanced diet. Look at each individual food type and identify why each one is important in its own way.
- Use the ‘A Balanced diet – Supporting Material' sheet to aid discussion. Identify one missing feature from the diet (water) and how this is equally important.

- Open the ‘Who Wants to be a Healthy Centurion Quiz – Activity' and work through the answers as a class or in teams (organisation to be decided by the teacher).
- Work through the questions and after each answer discuss it as a class.
- Start back from the beginning when answering incorrectly to reinforce understanding.

Plenary

- Move around the class and discuss that quiz and the answers. Get the pupils to list all that they have learnt from the quiz or from the day so far.

Suggested extension activities or cross curricular links:
- Look at the amount of exercise that the pupils are going to participate in throughout the day and then look at a few lunchboxes. Work out the calories taken in and work out if the amount of activity will burn these off.
