4.1 Designing a 5 a Day Cricket Poster – Guidelines

Activity title: Why stop at 5-a-day when you can hit for 6?!

Introduction
10 minutes
  • Discuss the importance of eating five fruit or vegetables a day and as class discuss ideas for a slogan to head a healthy eating poster. Provide the example ‘Why stop at five a day when you can hit for six?!” and discuss how this could specifically relate to cricket.
  • Use ‘A – Z of fruits and vegetables’ in the Supporting Material section for ideas of fruits and vegetables.
  • As a class list some ideas for how the poster could take a cricket focus at the same time as encouraging healthy eating, eg, bat shaped as a cucumber, ball as an apple, fruit shaped characters, etc.
   
Main Activity
40 Minutes
  • the pupils the task of designing and creating a poster to encourage children to eat 5-a-day with a cricket focus. Use the ‘5 a day poster’ worksheet in the Activity section.
   
Plenary
10 Minutes
  • Move around the class and allow the pupils to share their posters with the rest of the class and briefly explain what they have designed.
