Activity title: Designing a Spirit of Cricket Emblem & Logo

Main learning objective:

To effectively represent the spirit of cricket through accurately drawn pictures and to understand the importance of the spirit of cricket.

Introduction
10 minutes
  • Discuss the game of cricket with the class and list any major rules and aims of the game. Explain how cricketers follow certain rules, which make a fair game and share ‘The spirit of cricket information’ with the pupils and ‘Examples of cricket etiquette’ in the Supporting Material section of this module and discuss.
  • Ask the children if they can remember a time in the last few weeks when someone has acted in the same way as Andrew Flintoff and highlight this type of behaviour in sport and within school in general.
   
Main Activity
40 Minutes
  • Explain to the class that they are to design an emblem/picture and a motto for the spirit of cricket.
  • Provide each pupil with the worksheet ‘Template to design a motto and emblem’ in the Activity section. Use the MCC Postcards for ideas.
   
Plenary
10 Minutes
  • Move around the class and each pupil can share their motto and explain why they have chosen those words and also show the emblem/pictures to accompany the motto and explain this also.
