Timing Lesson plan and supporting resources

Introduction
10 minutes
  • Explain to the class that they are going to be finding out how to play a cricket shot and how to bowl a ball overarm. Ask them how this could be shown to them to help them (video, live demonstration, etc).
  • Select two children who know how to bowl overarm and two children who have no idea how to bowl overarm or at least find it very difficult.

Main Activity
40 Minutes
  • After discussing the text, provide the class with ‘Making a Batting Flick Book’ or ‘Making a Bowling Flick Book’ in the Activity section. The children must work individually to colour in the character in the 16 squares. They can choose the cricket kit colours for any of the teams participating in the T20 world cup tournament. Try to represent all of the teams throughout the class.
  • Once the squares are coloured, cut them out and place the squares correctly to form a flick book. The teachers can add two staples at the end and the children can use the book as a demonstration flick book for how to play the shot or bowl overarm.

Plenary
10 Minutes
  • Move around the class to ensure that all are finished.
  • If there is time the class can make the other flick book or design their own for throwing the ball.
